
President of Malpokhari Preservation Committee Suryaman Maharjan said they have shortened the closure by one day owing to Nagpanchami Today.
He further said, “However, if the government does not revoke the decision to resettle squatters in Sundarighat within a week, we will wage a decisive movement.”
A team led by Maharjan is scheduled to sit for dialogue with Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai tomorrow to sort out the problem.
The closures on Sunday and Monday were partially violent; half a dozen vehicles were vandalised in different places of Lalitpur. Bandh-enforcers vandalised a micro bus in Dhobighat yesterday morning.
There was a clash between police and Bandh-enforcers and some were arrested and released later in the yesterday evening. Police had used tear gas shells during the clash in Dhobighat yesterday
Local leaders of all the parties except UCPN-Maoist have supported protesters in challenging the government’s plan to resettle squatters in Sundarighat.
