CAMPAIGN FOR SETTING UP ADVANCED LIBRARY

Bhaktapur, Dec.2: A campaign aimed at collecting funds for setting up an advanced library at a community school in Kavrepalanchowk has been launched.

The library depicting local culture will be established at the local Gyan Bikas Community School, Panauti-7.

At an initiative of Chief and Read Nepal and RP Foundation and culture expert Rabindra Puri, the campaign is taking place at the Namuna Ghar at Duttatraya in Bhaktapur.
The Namuna Ghar, a typical Newari house that had been neglected for many years was renovated at an initiative of Puri and it received the UNESCO Heritage Award-2004.

A musical concert on Friday evening was performed by a noted musical band "Sukarma" as a part of the campaign.

As many as 16 national and foreign nationals provided financial assistance up to Rs. 100,000 during the concert.

According to National Director of Read Nepal Sanjana Shrestha, the construction of a traditional building for a library is estimated to cost around Rs. 12 million. Besides, funds will be collected from different people and organizations also.

It may be noted that Read Nepal has been successful in establishing 49 advanced libraries in 38 districts in Nepal during the period of 20 years of its establishment. The campaign launched for setting up the 50th library will be extended to India and Bhutan also. Some 1.8 million rural people have been beneficial from free library facilities provided by the Read Nepal, it is learnt.RSS
